This course explores the physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and
moral development of children from conception to middle childhood and
exceptionalities/disabilities that may occur within this time period.
Theories of child development, biological and environmental
foundations, pre-natal development, the birth process, and the new
born   babies are discussed. Influences of the family, community,
media,and culture are considered. Also considered are theories and
practices for producing optimal developmental growth, stress and
stress management, the exceptional child (children with
disabilities), public policy, inclusion, early intervention, types of
special needs, and methods for helping with them.
