Living-Learning Center | Louisiana: Inclusive Communities
L200 | 1040 | Gilbride
We will examine communities where all are welcome and achieve potential
through asset-based perspectives on ability, race, and class using the
principles of person-centered planning, Communitas, Jean Vanier’s L’Arche
experience, and best practice in the disability field. During the first three and
final two weeks of the course, students will engage directly with persons with
disabilities in local residential and community settings. During the week of
Spring Break, we will travel to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to work with special
education students in four Teach for America settings. Students’ costs include
transportation, lodging and food.
