Thinking and Reasoning is primarily a skill building course; the
purpose of this course is to facilitate your development as critical
thinkers. To achieve this objective, the course will focus on the
principles of proper reasoning, the ways in which human reasoning
often goes awry and techniques for understanding and evaluating the
arguments encountered in philosophy and in daily life. Many of the
course readings will be made available online through Oncourse, but
you will also need to purchase How We Know What Isn’t So by Thomas
Gilovich. The course grade will based on written assignments,
quizzes, exams and classroom participation.
