Philosophy | Introduction to Ethics
P140 | 9585 | Toh
This is an introduction to ethics, or moral philosophy. We will get
acquainted with the two most sophisticated and influential theories
of ethics: utilitarianism and Kant’s deontological theory. We will
also look at some contemporary public ethical issues that Americans
have been deeply divided over.
Potential students are advised that although this is an introductory
course, it will be difficult and require much careful thinking,
reading, and writing. Two exams, one or two papers, and some short
homework and quizzes can be expected.
