This course addresses the political issues facing developing
countries in today’s political and economic environment.  Particular
attention will be given to the problems of democracy and
democratization in these countries.  In addition, we will focus on
important topics, such as clientelism and corruption, the problems of
economic development, ethnicity, religion and class, human rights,
and the role and influence of the international environment.  Country
examples and case studies will be drawn from all of the major regions
of the world with developing countries.  Course evaluation will be
based on a paper, midterm and final exams, quizzes and class
participation.
