Topic:  Medical Sociology

This course is one of two regular graduate seminars that focus on
medical sociology and the sociology of mental health.  Course topics
include the social construction of illness and disease, the personal
and professional definition and recognition of illness, the
distribution and determinants of illness, disease, and sickness in
the population, and the social consequences of illness and disease.
The course readings include both classic and contemporary works, and
span diverse theoretical and methodological orientations.
