2)    Course Objectives
Living in the Information Age is a required, foundational course for
new Telecommunications majors. During the semester we will trace the
development, survey the literature, and explore the impact of new
media technologies, examining both conceptual and practical aspects
of life in an information society. The course is divided into
different thematic sections, each emphasizing a different aspect of
the relationship among communication technologies and social,
psychological, and cultural systems.


Goals and Objectives
*To develop a broad understanding and become articulate about the
historical, social and psychological impact of new communication
technologies
*To encourage original thinking about new media in relation to
communication and telecommunications theories.
*Through various media-related assignments, to develop your ability
to analyze the evolving information ecology as it affects media
industries as well as social and cultural life in general
* To be able to design and develop your own Web Page as a practical
way of becoming an active participant in the Information Age.


3)   Course format.
The course is taught as a large lecture format with small, weekly
discussion groups that provide more individualized training in
website production and small group discussions about class topics.

4)   T101 is part of the Media and Society focus in
Telecommunications.  It fulfills the COAS Social and Historical
Studies (S&H) distribution requirement.

5)   Required Texts.
Readings will be available online and via eReserves. There is NO
required text at this time.
