T101 Living in the Information Age

Course Description and Objectives
Living in the Information Age is a required course for new
Telecommunications majors. During the semester we will trace the
development, survey the literature, and explore the impact of new
technologies on the media and information landscape, examining both
conceptual and practical aspects of life in an information society.
The course is divided into different thematic topics, each
concentrating on a different facet of the relationship between
communication and information technologies and social, economics,
psychological, and ideological systems.
Living in the Information Age is intended to provide students with a
broad understanding of the social and psychological impact of the
new information and communication technologies (ICTs), and to
encourage original thinking about media and information in relation
to a wide range of theoretical & practical perspectives. Through
various media and information technology related assignments,
students will learn to analyze the evolving information ecology as
it affects the media and information industries as well as social
and cultural life generally.

Required for all Telecom Majors
Course Format
Large lecture format and weekly discussion sections. Weekly
lectures will cover a specific topic, while the weekly discussion
sections will allow students to explore the lecture topics in a more
in depth and personal manner (through structured group discussions)
