Course Description
This course will introduce students to global media systems, which
are greatly influenced by the social, political, philosophical, and
economic structures of a country. The course will cover: 1) the
types of media structures used throughout the world; 2) the
application of these structures to various media systems; and 3) how
the individual media systems are affected by trends toward
globalization. In addition, the course will rely heavily on country-
specific case studies.
In the course, students will learn how to do the following:
1)understand different structures that can be used to evaluate media
systems; 2)apply these structures to different media systems;
3)understand the pressures facing national media systems due to
globalization; and 4)compare and contrast media systems
Prerequisites
T205 or T207 (or consent of instructor).
