COURSE PREREQUISITES:  T206 or T211 or consent of the
instructor.


COURSE DESCRIPTION:  T331 is designed to introduce students to the
process of screenwriting.  This class will focus on the essential
elements of screenwriting; structure, character, dialogue and plot.
We will also look at related topics such as synopsis and logline,
treatments, pitches and query letters.  It is geared toward students
who may have a screenwriting idea they would like to develop, but do
not possess the basic knowledge of how to go about it.


COURSE FORMAT:  Typically, class materials will be initially
presented using a modified lecture format; almost every class
session will have a lecture component.  Your participation during
the lectures will be encouraged.  In addition, your participation in
the form of small group workshops will be expected.  We will also
watch films for analysis of structure, dialogue, characters etc.


REQUIREMENTS COURSE WILL MEET:  The course does not distribute to
A&H, S&H or N&M.  It is three hours credit in the Design and
Production area of the Telecommunications major.


REQUIRED TEXTS:

The Writer’s Guide to Writing Your Screenplay by Cynthia Whitcomb,
1st Edition, 2002,  Kalmbach Publishing Company.

Crafty Screenwriting by Alex Epstein, 1st Edition, 2002, Henry Holt
& Co.


OTHER INFORMATION:  Each student will be required to write an
abbreviated screenplay of between 30-45 pages.  This will be turned
in at various times over the semester to provide students with
feedback and allow them to improve on their work.
