Prof. David Waterman

Summary of course objectives:

We will develop and apply microeconomic models to the mass media,
including newspapers, broadcasting, multi-channel distributors, the
motion picture industry, and the Internet. The main objective is to
provide you with a method for evaluating public policy issues in the
media. Understanding the economics of communications industries is
often critical for predicting whether government policies affecting
these industries are likely to work. A second objective is to
provide you with a foundation for evaluating various business
strategies of media firms.
