This seminar limited to graduate students will explore the entire
range of Federico Fellini's cinema. We shall also read several
literary sources of his works--The Satyricon by Petronius and
Giacomo Cassanova's Memoirs. Students will be asked to attend a
weekly film screening on Wednesday evenings, to do a class
presentation on some aspect of a weekly film, and to prepare a
research paper on a topic of the student's choosing in consultation
with the instructor. All major films have English subtitles,
although some secondary material discussed in the course (for
example, Fellini's television commercials) are only in Italian. No
knowledge of Italian is required, although it is obviously a great
advantage.
