This course introduces graduate students to a variety of qualitative
research methods, with an emphasis on the tools of ethnography.
Students will obtain some practical experience in research design,
interviewing, designing and conducting a survey, and analyzing textual
data. Over the semester, students will work on developing a set of
methodologies appropriate for their individual research topic. The
course will also examine the nature of evidence and explanation within
anthropology as well as the politics and ethics of fieldwork.
