Comparative Poetics and Aesthetics.

A comparison of the type of “cultural work” the arts do in different
traditions. Readings from anthropology, literary criticism , art
history and music history. Selections from poetry, art, music around
the world.  Particular emphasis on the comparative study of poetry
from a global perspective and on the study of the varied cultural
practices concerning the interrelationship of poetry with the other
arts. Required attendance at the IU Art Museum and various cultural
venues.
