This special international study tour, team-taught course will focus
on the comparative aspects of educational reform in China and Japan.
The course will culminate in a required two week trip to China and
Japan in May that will enable students to visit schools, speak to
educators, students, and policy makers, and to observe directly the
nature and content of educational reform currently underway in both
societies. Students will learn how to examine the many similarities
and differences between the educational systems of these two major
East Asian societies. Tentative schedule for study tour is May 9
to May 25, 2005.

In addition to tuition for the 3-credit course, students will be
assessed $800 to cover costs of the study tour. Students will also
be responsible for the costs of most meals, except for breakfasts,
and for any personal miscellaneous expenses. $600 of the study
tour fee will be due on November 15.

Because course evaluation includes study tour assignments, enrolled
students will receive an “incomplete” in the course until the study
tour is completed. Final grades will be submitted by the end of
May.

Credit given for only one of EALC E497 and EDUC F401 on this topic.
