MW 2:30pm 3:45pm/class#24028/3cr./Location TBA

The second part of a two-semester survey on the literatures of the
Portuguese-speaking world. We will focus on late nineteenth and
twentieth-century literature from Portugal, Brazil, and Portuguese-
speaking Africa, starting with the subtle irony of the nineteenth-
century realist Machado de Assis and ending with divergent African
and Portuguese perspectives on the Portuguese colonial enterprise in
Africa.

Assignments: several short essays and one final paper (15-20 pp.)

This course meets jointly with P401.
