This course charts the rise of United States as a global military
and economic power from World War I to the present. We will look at
how leaders faced a series of challenges—global depression, world
war, the cold war, the emergence of new nations, and conflicts in
the Middle East. This course employs biography to show how global
events affected the lives of individuals, and vice versa, and an
emphasis will be placed on learning writing and research skills.
