During the years 1877 to the present, the United States has
undergone a transformation from a predominantly rural society into
one of the most powerful industrial and political nations in the
world.  This course will tell the story of a nation in search of a
new identity as it undergoes domestic change at the same time
working toward a position of global leadership. There will be four
in-class exams, each one counting 25% of the grade.
