Plato to NATO is a survey course on the development of science in
western society. The course will begin in antiquity with the
writings of various natural philosophers and ends in the early
twentieth century. There will be a selection of readings of the
original writings from natural philosophers to aid with the
understanding of the cultures in which different theories
developed. The beginning of science is marked by the recording of
theories which, for the first time, separate supernatural causes
from natural phenomena. Over the span of human history different
methodologies were employed to discover the fundamental entities of
nature.
