Linguistics | Semantics

An introduction to semantics for linguistics graduate students and
others with similar backgrounds. The current goal is to do enough
formal semantics of extensional topics so that people are conversant
with the ideas, then to do a unit on intensional phenomena and also
a unit on computational semantics. The required textbook is
Henriette de Swart's book "Introduction to Natural Language
Semantics". We'll also use sections from other books and papers.
The course will have weekly homework, mostly from the textbook. To
do well in the course, one should have taken at least one syntax
course. One should also be comfortable with symbolic notation from
logic or mathematics. For this, a course like Q520 should be fine.
