This course constitutes an intensive introduction to Optimality
Theory examining its basic principles and workings.  We will
introduce Optimality Theory by largely focusing on syllable
phonology, especially the phonology of the syllable margins (i.e.
the consonants at the beginning and end of syllables).  The
requirements include regular readings, a series of homework
assignments, at least two in-class oral presentations, and a term
paper.
