TO BE TAKEN CONCURRENTLY WITH T534
The purpose of this course is to give graduate students an opportunity
to teach English as a
second language (ESL). Students will be assigned to a teaching team
which will be responsibile
for one of several levels of an adult, evening ESL program. Textbooks
are not used in this
program so teachers must prepare and provide all materials. Other
tasks required of the graduate
student teachers are interviewing, making placement decisions,
preparing goals, establishing the
curriculum, developing lesson plans, and evaluating their students.
Several issues and topics
related to the art and profession of teaching will also be discussed
including the language skills,
published materials, error correction, resume writing, and employment
opportunities in ESL.
