This course addresses the application of standards of reasoning to a
variety of practical situations. Particular topics covered will
include validity, fallacies, media literacy, and textbook bias.
Students will be evaluated on the basis of several short writing
assignments, an in-class presentation, two mid-term examinations,
and one final examination. Examples will be drawn from sources as
diverse as the history of science, newspapers, political debates,
and the Law School Admission Test.
