This course provides a historical and comparative analysis of
political institutions in selected Latin American countries from the
19th century to current times.  We will focus on the historical
development of political institutions in Latin America before and
after independence; policymaking in democratic and authoritarian
settings; corruption and governance; and current
prospects for democratic and economic development."
