Religious Studies | Introduction to Buddhism
R250 | 22966 | Drewes
This course provides a general introduction to some of the main
ideas and practices of Buddhism. We will begin by examining Buddhist
thought and practice as they developed in India. After this, we
will spend the remainder of the semester looking at Tibetan Buddhism
and Zen, two regional forms of Buddhism that have been especially
influential in the West. Although we will not cover all forms of
Buddhism, our restricted focus will enable a more in-depth
examination of individual Buddhist traditions than is normally
possible in an introductory course.
This course carries Culture Studies distribution credit.
