Topic: Chinese Buddhist Texts

We will read a series of selections from Chinese Buddhist texts,
organized so that students may gain basic competence in  reading
this difficult yet rewarding genre. Selections will be chosen so as
to provide coverage of basic scriptural, commentarial, and essay
forms; different translation styles from the 2nd to the 12th
centuries; and one or two doctrinal traditions. Students with
background in any East Asian language (Chinese, Japanese, Korean)
are welcome; we will use a collaborative approach to share the load
of dictionary lookup work.
