S210 | 10255 | Rojas
This course introduces students to theories of bureaucracy,
sociological understandings of work and economic sociology.
Theories of bureaucracy deal with the nature of authority within
firms, the boundaries between firms and the organization of work in
firms. The sociology of work is about what counts as work and how
people end up doing certain activities for pay. Economic sociology
is about the political and cultural conditions necessary for the
functioning of the economy and the development of markets. Grades
will be computed from two midterms and a final examination.
