This course examines the representation of women in the media from
the 1950s to the present. Through readings, screenings, lectures,
and discussions students will be challenged to analyze and compare
historical representations of women in television, film, and print,
with women's status in society. Areas of critical focus include
representations of women's domestic roles, sexuality, stereotypes,
race, and bodies.
This course counts toward Social and Historical Studies distribution
requirements in the College of Arts and Sciences. It may, or may
not, also count toward other degree requirements. For more
