B400/600 Behavioral Genetics. This course will explore the current
literature on human behavioral genetics. In addition, relevant
literature on non-human animal behavioral genetics will be included.
Behavioral genetics methodology (e.g. heritability, relative risk
calculation, quantitative trait loci analysis, biometric model
fitting) will be covered as needed. Topics will include intelligence,
personality, sexual orientation, violence, psychological disorders,
addiction, perfect pitch, and eugenics, among others. Media coverage
of selected studies will also be explored. Emphasis will be placed on
a critical examination of the evidence, and real-world implications of
these studies. Grade will be based on discussion participation,
written commentaries on selected readings, and a research paper.
