Chemistry | Inorgainc Chemistry Lab
C437 | 14332 | Mindiola

Prerequisite: C343 or S343 and C430 on Bloomington Campus.
This course is only offered on the Bloomington campus at IU. This
laboratory course includes the synthesis, characterization, and
study of chemical and physical properties of inorganic and
organometallic compounds. The course involves making several
compounds and investigating their structure through spectroscopy.
Half of the semester is spent learning inert atmosphere techniques
for the manipulation of air-sensitive compounds under an atmosphere
of pure nitrogen. Students will gain experience working in a glove-
box. Students will make their own catalyst from the beginning and
test the activity of their catalyst as their final project. Students
have the opportunity to improve their science writing skills and
prepare professional-style reports.
