Classical Studies | Greek Historians: Thucydides
G407 | ALL | Christ, M

G407 Greek Historians: Thucydides (3 cr.). Prof. M. Christ. MW 2:30-
3:45. This course aims to introduce students to Greek historiography
through close study of Thucydides' Histories. Thucydides is, by
many accounts, the most brilliant - and most challenging - ancient
historian. We will seek to understand him both as an extraordinary
intellectual and revolutionary prose stylist, and to locate him
within his late fifth-century cultural milieu. Students will read
the entire Histories in English and excerpts in Greek (approximately
2000 lines) from Books 1 and 2.
