L540 Readings in Medieval Latin
Literature of the Long Twelfth Century
Reading and interpretation of representative authors of
the "Renaissance of the Twelfth Century" with a particular (though
not exclusive) emphasis on poetry.  Topics to include humanism, the
mutual influence of Latin and the vernaculars, the aetas ovidiana,
women writers, epic, artes poetriae, love lyric, and satire.
Previous experience reading medieval Latin helpful but certainly not
necessary.
