A comparison of the type of “cultural work” the arts perform in
different traditions. Readings from anthropology, literary
criticism , art history and music history. Selections from poetry,
art, music around the world.  Particular emphasis on the comparative
study of poetry from a global perspective. Required attendance at
the IU Art Museum and various cultural venues.
