W401 16100 ADVANCED FICTION WRITING
11:15a-12:30p TR (15 students) 3 cr.
PREREQUISITE: W301 or permission of instructor, plus submission of
acceptable manuscript to instructor in advance of registration.
In this course you will further study the craft of writing fiction.
You will read a few collections of short stories, and perhaps an
anthology. A large part of the course will be in the workshop
format, where you will read and discuss one anotherís work. Expect
to write three to four stories during the semester, and also to
provide written critiques on your colleaguesí work. The aim is to
deepen your understanding of the story form through writing,
reading, and critiquing.
To apply, put in my mailbox in BH 442 a work of fiction (no longer
than 20 pages), as well as a brief essay (no more than a page) on
the creative writing courses youíve taken and what makes you want to
take this course. Make sure these materials are in a clearly marked
