Fine Arts | Performative Identity and the Realities of Race and Gender ((Problems in Contemporary European and American Art) - Graduate Students ONLspr06

What does it mean to say that all identity is performative?
What makes race and gender “real?”
What are the implications for the study of recent art?

We will approach these questions through some of the seminal texts
of Fanon, Lacan, Derrida, Gilroy and Butler. We will also consider
some of the ways their works have been developed by Patricia Hill
Collins, Mary Kelly, Adrian Piper, Michele Wallace and others.
