French and Italian | Masterpieces of Italian Literature II

The focus of this course is on Italian writers and literary
movements from 19th century to the present. Its goal is to read some
of Italy’s most representative literary works understanding the
relationship between the historical context and the development of a
Modern approach to literature in Italy.

Special attention will be paid to the evolution of the national
language, the avant-guards and the Fascism, and the birth of Post-
modern literature. Students will write short essays during the term,
participate in an oral presentation, and write a final exam. The
class will be conducted in Italian.

Required Texts: I. Calvino, Le Cosmicomiche. All other texts
will be available in the reader. Prerequisite is FRIT M307; above
section carries culture studies credit; fulfills A & H and Culture
Studies-List B requirement.
