G302 | 16649 | Cornell
G302 is a seminar which introduces the major theoretical issues and
empirical questions in the field of population studies. It
emphasizes how gender structures choices and opportunities. It
surveys all of the fundamental topics in demography, from death and
birth rates, through marriage and household formation, to the origin
and quality of data. Readings are drawn from sociology,
anthropology, history, geography, and economics as well as from
demography and gender studies. They cover the developing societies
of south and east Asia and sub-Saharan Africa, the developed
societies of western Europe, North America, and Japan, and The
People's Republic of China.
