Above class meets with REN-R 501

The course will focus on Latin texts in the late medieval and early
Renaissance period. The emphasis will be on how to find and read
texts. Besides out chief focus, transcribing late medieval and
Renaissance texts, we will take up (1) manuscript bibliography,
including various indices of manuscripts; (2) information centers
for manuscript research (and specialists in various aspects of
codicology who can be consulted); (3) manuscript depositories in the
United States and elsewhere; and (4) Renaissance bibliography in
general, especially as it pertains to identifying minor scholars and

Each student will be expected to transcribe and edit one late
medieval or Renaissance work. A knowledge of Latin is required.
