American society has become increasingly scientific and technical
over the past century. Decisions we make in both our personal lives
and public policy have become increasingly influenced by scientific
results. But how does science "work," and what role should science
play in our practical lives? In this course, we will examine how
scientists attempt to understand the world and how we can apply
apply scientific reasoning to real-life decisions. We will also
consider the social context of scientific discovery and how social
values become embedded in scientific practice
