Concentrates on commercial implementations of several chemistry
databases (Chemical Abstracts, Beilstein, Gmelin, Cambridge
Structural Database) and publicly available life sciences databases.
On the chemistry side, the emphasis is on the versions of the
Chemical Abstracts database offered on the STN International system
through the Scifinder Scholar interface for CA and Medline. In
addition, the main databases that are important for bioinformatics
are covered in the course. Search techniques, user interfaces, and
methods of combining results in personal databases are covered in the
course.
