This section meets with SPEA V690.
This seminar is the introductory core course for graduate students
specializing in the field of public policy in the political science
program, as well as for students in the joint Ph.D. program of
Political Science and the School of Public and Environmental
Affairs. We will survey the field from a comparative perspective,
examining theories that account for policy variation across sectors,
time and space. Over the course of the semester, we will cover
advanced industrialized countries, including the US as a comparative
case, as well as developing countries. The seminar will be a
collaborative effort, featuring presentations from several members
of the political science faculty on such topics as public opinion,
international policy networks, common-pool resources, regulation and
privatization, legislative institutions & bureaucracy, and national
security.
