Religious Studies | Alternative Religions in Modern America
R202 | 25454 | Rapport
**THIS IS A SECOND EIGHT WEEK COURSE ONLY **
Cults, sects, new and alternative religious movements have exploded
in popularity in the United States since in the mid 1960s.
Immigrants and religious teachers from Asia and the Middle East
brought their traditions with them to America, joining the already
amazingly diverse and creative religious scene in the United States
to create what one commentator has called the most religiously
diverse nation in the world. In this class we will examine the post
1965 religious environment in America, studying some of the more
important religious alternatives now available to Americans, as well
as the social and political factors that helped to create this
lively and varied religious scene.
