Use of hearing aids and other types of amplification devices remains
to be the most successful course of rehabilitation for a vast
majority of people with sensory hearing loss. Major advances have
been made in the area of amplification devices in the last few years.
Introduction of digital technologies has revolutionized the hearing
aid in form as well as function. This course will trace the history
of these developments, discuss the basic electronics involved, and
explore the tremendous possibilities that lay ahead. Part of the
course along with its laboratory component will allow students to
develop the clinical knowledge necessary to select, fit, and evaluate
these modern amplification devices.
