American Studies | U.S. Arts and Media Topic: Bugs Bunny: American Folk Icon
A202 | 14802 | Ben Aldred

(3 cr. A & H) Few fictional characters are as broadly recognizable
as Bugs Bunny. However, recent examinations have moved to examine
Bugs as more than simply a neutral childhood amusement, instead
recognizing his position as an American trickster figure. This
course proposes to use the tools of folklore to examine the ways in
which Bugs Bunny reflects a number of important issues in American
Studies including issues of identity, worldview and history. This
course will include the viewing and analysis of individual cartoons
in class as well as independent written analysis by students.
