G620 | 14805 | Robert Terrell
(4 cr.) Jointly offered with CMCL-C615
This course addresses the dilemmas of protest in America by focusing
on key exemplars of public discourse up to the present day. We will
engage in a sort of collective and inductive theorizing, working
together to discern themes, tropes, strategies, and problematics
that contribute to a productive understanding of discourses of
protest. Throughout the course, the discourse of African-American
protest will serve as a central historical thematic, lending the
course coherence and serving as a sort of paradigm case with which
other bodies of discourse can be productively compared.
