Anthropology | West Africa Today
A205 | 25681 | Grosz-Ngate

Above class meets first eight weeks only

This course introduces students to French-speaking West Africa,
especially Senegal. The class will explore contemporary social and
cultural life in historical and political context. Class discussion
and assignments will be based on films by West African film makers and
relevant readings. Students are expected to come to class prepared
and participate actively in discussion. Although the course is
designed for students expecting to participate in the IU Summer Study
Abroad Program in Dakar, Senegal, it is also of interest to others
wishing simply to learn about West Africa. Permission of the
instructor is required.
