Criminal Justice-COAS | Law and Global Corporations
P300 | 15690 | Liu
Who should care about the role of the multinational enterprise (MNE)
in a globalizing world? Many people. As future policymakers,
lawyers, or managers, it is important for you to understand the role
of large transnational or multinational business enterprises.
Whether you are a labor lawyer concerned about global trade issues
or labor standards, an environmental activist concerned about the
role of MNEs with respect to environmental policy, or you work as an
manager or in-house counsel for a major MNE, it is important for you
to understand how MNEs function as legal entities and issues along
its expansion in a globalizing market.
The course will explore the following topics: (1) the legal
construct of the multinational corporation (what is it, how is it
created, what are the different states and legal systems that give a
multinational an identity); (2) the multinational and business
ethics (including international humanitarian rights, labor rights,
environmental issues, etc); and (3) the multinational on the global
stage (e.g., the role of the multinational in setting international
business standard, in the development of international criminal
justice regimes).
