The purpose of this course is to explain how officer
characteristics, organizational factors, situational factors, and
neighborhood characteristics have been used to explain different
types of police behavior, such as the decision to arrest, use force,
and police deviance.
Other topics will include: (1) occupational socialization; (2)
efforts to control the discretion of criminal justice actors; and
(3) racial profiling.
