Creativity in everyday life is the base for exploring folklore and
traditional activities in the United States in this class. Utilizing
examples of traditional arts, ideas, and practices of folk groups in
the United States, including ethnic, occupational, regional, and
religious groups, we will examine how people express individual and
group identity in our culture. Classes will focus on specific genres
of folklore, including urban legends, fairytales, body art, games,
and dance among other examples of expressive culture.
