The focus of this course is the literature of Modern Italy from
the17th to the 20th century.  The course is designed to achieve a
reading competency of representative works of modern Italian
literature through careful readings of selected passages. Galileo,
Goldoni, Leopardi, Manzoni, Collodi, Pirandello, Moravia and Calvino
will be among the authors considered. The course will also include a
section about Italian movies and comic books. Students will write
short essays during the term, participate in an oral presentation,
and take a final exam. The class will be conducted in Italian. A
reader will be available.
